Mildred K. Hogan, age 96, formerly of Sabula, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 26, 2005 in the Alverno Health Care Facility Home, Clinton, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, Iowa. Reverend Robert Krueger will officiate. All relatives and friends are invited to join the family for refreshments at the church dining room following the Memorial Service. Memorials may be Alverno Health Care Hospice, Clinton, Iowa.
Mildred was born May 22, 1909, the daughter of Martin C. and Katharina (Koch) Harmsen. She was educated in rural Sabula Schools, graduating from Sabula High School, Class of 1928. Mildred continued her education at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa where she graduated in 1931 with a Nursing Degree from the College of Nursing.
Mildred was a Private Duty Nurse in and around the Sabula for several years. In 1935, she moved to Los Angeles, California where she continued her Nursing career.
In 1942, Mildred married Jerry Hogan who chose a career in the United States Army; they were married in Yuma, Arizona. Mildred and Jerry moved many times during his military career. Jerry retired in 1952 and they made their home in Oceanside, California. They made many trips to Sabula to visit her parents, relatives and friends. Mildred continued her nursing career until 1973. She moved to Clinton, Iowa in 1992. Mildred treasured her family and friends.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Mary Louise (Thomas) Dunsford of Laurinburg, North Carolina; two grandchildren; Alice Marie Dunsford of Tampa, Florida and James Martin Dunsford of Laurinburg, North Carolina; one great grandchild, Andrew Thomas Dunsford; nephews, William F. Messner, Donald G. Messner; niece, Joanne Messner Cluse; cousins, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three sisters.
