Michael “Mike” Allen Shaw, age 63, of Savanna, Illinois, went to his final rest on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Mike was born on May 1, 1944 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Randall and Frita Shaw. Mike cherished the relationships he had with family and friends alike.
Mike worked at many things over the years including selling heavy equipment and grain storage, working construction and counseling alcoholics. Mike is best known, however, for his work as a local artist. Mike painted murals on the side of Manny’s Pizza in Savanna, and on Shaw’s IGA in Shannon, smaller pictures on the ceiling tiles of Manny’s, and on many other structures in Carroll county – many of which were featured in local newspaper articles. Local outdoorsmen from Illinois to Nebraska will remember Mike as an excellent fisherman and an expert mushroom hunter. Others in Savanna will remember Mike as an excellent singer who thrilled crowds at CJ’s on Karaoke night. All of us will remember his good heart and agile mind.
Mike is survived by son Mike, daughter Sherry, and son Scott (Sue) Shaw of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, one grandson Walter; five brothers, Jimmy, Kenny, Dennis, Randy and David Shaw.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Ernie and Robert Shaw.
His family would like to thank all of those who did so much for Mike in his last years. Your friendship and generosity meant the world to him.
