Michael John “Mike” Sour, age 55, of Thomson, Illinois died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at University of Iowa Medical Center, in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson, Illinois. Interment will take place at the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois. Pastor Rick Zickefoose from the Mt. Carroll Church of God will officiate. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Thomson. Memorials may be given to the Rolling Hills Progress Center at Lanark, Illinois in Mike’s memory. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com .
Mike was born November 22, 1950, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of John and Elizabeth Ann (Ditsworth) Sour. While growing up, Mike was home schooled by his parents and for 5 years worked at the Oregon Shelter Workshop in Oregon, Illinois. He later worked for the Rolling Hills Progress Center at Lanark, Illinois for twenty-five years as a laborer. During his employment at Rolling Hills Progress Center, he received several “worker of the month” awards as well as one “worker of the year” award. Mike loved music of all kinds, especially country music, and enjoyed joining in by playing his drums to the sound of his favorite songs. He thoroughly enjoyed being a participant in the Special Olympics, which were held at the Rolling Hills Progress Center in Lanark, Illinois. The Argo Fay Methodist Church also played an important part in his life, for it was there that he was baptized.
Mike will be dearly missed by his loving parents, John and Elizabeth Sour; his brother Ronald (Christine) Sour; and a sister Laurie Lynn (John) Hill, all of Thomson, Illinois; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mike is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
