Michael D Olson

Michael D. Olson age 67, of Savanna, Illinois passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. A memorial gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m., Saturday June 23, 2018 at Manny’s Pizza in Savanna following the gathering at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Mike’s memory.

Mike was born August 10, 1950 in Savanna, the son of Teman and Laurel (Lapp) Olson. He attended Savanna High School. Mike worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Clinton, Iowa for 10 years. Mike enlisted in the United States Army National Guard and honorably served his country. He was stationed with the 1644th Transportation Company, Company H, Recruit Sustainment Battalion in Rock Falls, Illinois. Following Mike’s retirement from the National Guard, he went to work for Swiss Colony in Savanna for 10 years.

Mike married the love of his life, Dena Bimm on November 6, 1971 at the Community Church in Savanna. They celebrated 46 years of marriage. Mike enjoyed crossword puzzles, the river and woodworking. Most of all, Mike treasured the time he spent with his family especially his three granddaughters, Caitlyn, Carissa and Mary.

Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dena; two sons, David (Donna Lahre) Olson of Savanna, William Olson of Savanna; three granddaughters; two brothers, Terry Olson of Houma, Louisiana and Teman (Barbara Pazour) Olson of Trempealeau, Wisconsin. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother, Donald Arnold.
