Michael L. Carlson, 71, of Savanna, Illinois passed away June 3rd, 2012 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House Bettendorf, IA. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA.
Mike was born November 30, 1940, the son of Raymond & Mary (Wasick) Carlson in Chicago, Illinois. Mike married Kathryn Ann Ehringer on May 3, 1986 in Savanna. Kathy passed away on August 22, 2007 at her home.
Mike was a locomotive engineer with the Milwaukee RR, the Canadian Pacific Railway, and finished his career with IMRL with 40 years of service prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the NRA, the Mississippi Flyway Sportsmen’s Club and the Savanna Moose Lodge. Mike loved to shoot trap at various gun clubs. Most of all, Mike enjoyed spending time visiting with his family and friends.
Mike will be dearly missed by two sons, Michael Carlson Jr. and Mark Carlson, both of Elgin, Illinois; one daughter, Christie (Brandon Prowant) Rice of Savanna; six grandchildren, Kelsey and Keigan Rice of Savanna, Cory, Tristian, Nicollette, and Aaron Carlson, one great grandchild, Vivienne; two sisters, Mary Ann (Howard) Clarke of Springville, California and Christine (Brian) Prazich of Cummings, Georgia; one brother, Raymond J. Carlson of Suisun City, California; three sisters in-law, Cindy (Mark) Bertuli of Mark, Illinois, Patty (Bill) McKenna of Davenport, Iowa and Carolyn (John) Kazakos of Rockford, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
