Merrice & Phyllis Steines

Merrice M. Steines, age 81, of Preston, Iowa passed away peacefully on April 14, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. Merrice was reunited in heaven with his loving wife, Phyllis A. Steines, age 77, on April 17, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center South, Clinton. A funeral mass for Merrice and Phyllis will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston with a 9:00-10:00 a.m. visitation prior to the service. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Preston. A visitation for Merrice and Phyllis will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston with a Rosary Service and Scripture Wake service at 3:00 p.m. prior to visitation on Friday.
Merrice was born on April 27, 1930, the son of Arnold and Clara (Weis) Steines in Springbrook, Iowa. Phyllis was born on April 25, 1934, the daughter of Nick and Anna (Kilburg) Feller in Springbrook. They were both raised and educated in Springbrook. Merrice and Phyllis were united in marriage on May 31, 1955. They were hard workers and were employed for many years in local factories. They resided in Preston for many years and were currently residing at the Sarah Harding Senior Living Center, Clinton, Iowa. Merrice and Phyllis loved spending time with their family and friends.
Merrice and Phyllis are survived by five children, Sue (Leon) Schmidt of Preston, Sarah (Michael) Sparks of De Witt, Samuel (Penny) Steines of Camanche, Iowa, Scott (Lisa) Steines of Camanche and Stanley (Deb Milder) Steines of Morrison, Illinois; ten grandchildren, Leann (Travis) Long, Paul (Dana) Sparks, Craig (Amanda) Sparks, Adam (Amanda) Steines, Ashley (Jason) Lansing, Allyson Steines, Aubrey (Rich) Klahn, Emileigh Steines, Madison Steines and Grace Steines; five great grandchildren, Dyllan, Makenzie, Lydia Sparks, Olivia Steines and Autumn Klahn.
Merrice is survived by two brothers, Roger (Jan) Steines of Springbrook and Larry (Patti) Steines of Dubuque, Iowa; ten sisters, Gwendola Till of Maquoketa, Iowa, Betty (Dick) Fleege of Summerfield, Florida, Madonna (Joe) McCloy of Delmar, Iowa, Iona (Harold) Koppes of Dubuque, Sister Shirley Steines of Fort Yates, North Dakota, Marlene Steines of Aurora, Colorado, Darlene Sieverding and Kelma (Bob) Michels, both of Bellevue, Iowa, Bonnie Charboneau of Dubuque and Mary Jo (Gary) Beohm of DesMoines, Iowa. Phyllis is survived by two brothers, Milo (Arlene) Feller of Preston and Omer “Pete” (Rosie) Feller of Preston and one sister in-law, Elaine Feller of Bellevue, Iowa.
They were preceded in death by their parents; one son, Shawn; a granddaughter, Amanda Sparks, great grandson, Noah Sparks; two great granddaughters, Liliana and Liviana Long; Merrice’s three brothers in-law, Merlin Till, Thomas Sieverding and Ray Charboneau; and Phyllis’s brother, Sylvester “Shorty” Feller.
