Melvin L. Olson Jr.

Melvin L. Olson Jr., age 57, of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Law – Jones Funeral Home in Hanover, Illinois. Inurnment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at the funeral home prior to the memorial service.
Melvin was born May 8, 1954, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Melvin and Gloria (Mason) Olson Sr.. He graduated from Hanover High School with the Class of 1972. He worked various jobs in the Hanover area. Melvin loved music, rock & roll and some country, and had a passion for playing the guitar. He played bass guitar in many local bands in Hanover and Savanna. Melvin also loved being outdoors, whether it was hunting for arrowheads or searching out morel mushrooms and ginseng. He also took great pleasure in poking fun at his four nieces and nephews.
Melvin is survived by his mother Gloria Olson of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; two sisters, Roxanne Milder of Hanover, Illinois, and Yvonne (Dennis) Long of Clinton, Iowa; and four nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his father Melvin Olson Sr., and a son, Melvin Olson III.
