Melvin Getz, age 93, of Dousman, Wisconsin, formerly of Milwaukee, Wisconsin passed away Sunday, February 12, 2006 at Three Pillars Masonic Home in Dousman, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois with his nephew, Reverend Roger Goetz officiating. Friends may call from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will take place in Center Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the family. Melvin was born September 24, 1912, the son of Jacob and Mary (Ripper) Getz, in Lockwood, Missouri. He attended Pleasant Hill Grade School and Savanna High School in Savanna, Illinois.
On February 20, 1937, Melvin married Carol Crabbs in Waukegan, Illinois. She passed away on April 26, 1995. Melvin founded the Getz Clinic in the new Compass Point Building located in Dousman, Wisconsin in memory of his wife Carol. Melvin worked for the Instant Whip Company in Champaign and later in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1960, Instant Whip was sold, he worked for Braun Manufacturing in the hinge and nail business until retirement in 1986. Melvin was a thirty-second Degree Mason.
Melvin is survived by his brother, Jacob Glenn Getz of Savanna; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his special caretakers, Barb Rossi, Marlene Mitchell and Susie McCord.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, his sisters, Mabel Getz, Lilybel Getz and Louise Law, as well as his brothers, Lawrence, Walter, Ralph, and Charles; and one nephew, Charles Goetz
