Meldon A. Grube, age 82, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died on Thursday, September 6, 2007, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Elizabeth. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2007 at the Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church in Schapville, Illinois, with Reverend Dottie Morrizzo officiating. Burial will be in the Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to a charity of your choice in Meldon’s memory.
Meldon was born on March 29, 1925 the son of Anton and Lillie (Brickner) Grube in Elizabeth. Meldon attended Elizabeth area schools and graduated from the Elizabeth High School with the Class of 1943. Meldon married Evelyn M. Scadden on August 29, 1953 in Cuba City, Wisconsin. Evelyn died on August 31, 1999.
Meldon farmed on the family farm, which has been in his family for 151 years. He owned and operated the Elizabeth Feed Mill for seventeen years. Meldon was a past member of Elizabeth School Board and was an honorary member of Future Farmers of America. He was also a fifty year member of the Elizabeth Masonic Lodge and was a past Sunday School Superintendent at the Schapville Zion Presbyterian Church. He was also active in the Jo Daviess Soil and Wildlife Conservation programs. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Meldon is survived by five sons; Charles “Chuck’ Grube of Belaire, Florida, Donnie Grube of Janesville, Wisconsin, Loren Grube of Galena, Illinois, Carl (Karla) Grube and David (Peggy) Grube all of Elizabeth; three daughters, Leah (Sergio) Cam of Long Beach, California, Jane (Eldon) Young of Glenwood, Iowa, and Joyce (Myles) Hegstrom of Perry, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Meldon is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; an infant daughter; Jean, one brother; Floyd; and one sister, Arlene Peterson.
