Melanie F. “Mel” Jacobson, age 60, of Savanna, Illinois, died on Friday, January 29, 2016 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Cremation rites will be accorded and a private graveside service will be held in the Savanna Township Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 2100 Chicago Ave, Savanna, Illinois 61074 in Mel’s memory.
Mel was born on December 21, 1955, the daughter of Robert and Helen (Doty) Hoffman in Savanna. She attended Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1974. Mel married William “Jake” Jacobson on September 21, 1981 in The Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.
Mel and Jake loved travelling and spending time with each other. They went to Las Vegas for years and attended almost every show and attraction that Vegas had to offer. When they weren’t out on the town you would most likely find Mel at the closest shopping center. Mel loved dining out and shopping, especially for clothes and shoes. In the last couple years, Mel and Jake enjoyed spending a few months out of the year in Panama City Beach, Florida. Mel was a member of the United Methodist Church, Savanna. She enjoyed reading, knitting and spending time with her family and friends.
Mel will be dearly missed by her husband, Jake; and one sister, Karen (John) Wallace of Savanna. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen.
