Maxine Goetz

Maxine R. Goetz age 91, of Savanna, Illinois passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. Cremation rites will be accorded and a graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery rural Savanna. A memorial gathering and luncheon will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Savanna. A memorial fund has been established in Maxine's memory.
Maxine was born on December 27, 1923 in Savanna, the daughter of Bert and Gertrude (Downs) Bertholf. She attended Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1942. On July 30, 1945, Maxine married the love of her life Alfred Goetz in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Alfred passed away August 3, 1998 in Savanna. Maxine worked for Eaton in Savanna for twenty-three years, retiring in 1986. She then went to work at the Savanna City Hospital for five years.
Maxine was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Savanna, Lydian Society, and the Altar Guild. She was a VFW Life Member of the Savanna Auxiliary serving as an officer and member of the Honor Guard. Maxine volunteered for twelve years as a First Aid Instructor for the Red Cross. She was diligently involved in many of the VFW activities. Maxine's passion in life was "helping others".
Maxine is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Roger) Husband of Savanna; one son Jeffrey Goetz of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; one grandson; four granddaughters; seven great-granddaughters; five great-grandsons, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Arthur, Carl, Orville; three sisters, Doris Adams, Betty Miller, Mildred Reese (Maxine's twin).

*Maxine was a two time Survivor of breast cancer.
