Maxine Foley, age 89, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Savanna Bible Church. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Maxine was born April 30, 1926, the daughter of Charles and Arvilla (Cody) Avery in Denver, Arkansas. Her family later moved to Springfield, Missouri. When Maxine was 18, she met her future husband, Harold Foley at a roller rink while he was on leave from Fort Leonard Wood during WWII. After Harold served in the Army, he and Maxine were married on February 23, 1946. They lived in Savanna and celebrated 56 years of marriage until Harold’s death on June 17, 2002.
Maxine was a homemaker who cherished taking care of her family. She enjoyed spending winters in Texas and summers camping with Harold, crocheting, painting and baking for her family. Her grandchildren have fond memories of her making them bread pudding and banana pudding.
Maxine will be dearly missed by one daughter, Janell (Ward) Friederich of Savanna; one son, Harold “H.T.” (Kelly) Foley of Savanna; one son-in-law, Jim Huffine; seven grandchildren, Trisia (Greg) Barr, Jammie (Bob) Barten, Amy Friederich, Amber (Mike) Sanchez, Andrea (Tyler) Volkers, Cody (Erica) Foley and Ashely (Anthony Havens) Foley; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bert McVay of St. Charles, Missouri.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; a daughter, Naomi Huffine in 2008; two daughters at birth, Linda Ann in 1951 and Kay Jean in 1953; her parents Charles and Arvilla; two sisters, Berdance Collins and Beatrice Mastropoleto; and one brother, Roy Lee Avery.
