Max W. Carbaugh

Max W. Carbaugh, age 96, of Freeport, Illinois, formerly of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Manor Court, Freeport, Illinois. Private family services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of America in Max’s memory.
Max was born October 31, 1916, in Shannon, Illinois, the son of Edward S. and Mazie (Shiley) Carbaugh. He graduated from Shannon High School with the Class of 1935. Max married Frances Poffenberger in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, on June 28, 1939.
Max worked as a clerk for the Milwaukee Rail Road for thirty – four years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Mt. Carroll Baptist Church. Max enjoyed playing the organ, antique cars and was a member of an antique car club, and playing cards.
Max is survived by his wife, Frances Carbaugh of Freeport, Illinois; one son, Gary (Patricia) Carbaugh of Winnebago, Illinois; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Max was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry Carbaugh; one daughter, Gretchen Iske; and two sisters, Evelyn Griffin and Marjorie Carbaugh.
