Matthew F. Lundquist

Matthew F. Lundquist, age 68, of Mt. Carroll, IL, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Lena Living Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church, at 11 a.m. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., before the service. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll.

Matt was born December 19, 1954, in North Fork, CA, the son of Derwood and Gunnel (Grinndal) Lundquist. Early in his childhood, his parents moved their family to Chicago, IL, then when Matt was nine years old, they settled in Mt. Carroll. He graduated from Mt. Carroll High School with the class of 1973 and would soon after, enlist in the United States Navy. On August 14, 1975, Matt married Jane Mueller.

In 1982, he graduated from Highland Community College with an electronics degree. Matt operated a computer store in Mt. Carroll and served on the Mt. Carroll Ambulance Service. From 1986-1999, Matt began working for St. Anthony’s Medical Center as a flight medic and dispatcher. He then transitioned into an IT role for Mt. Carroll schools and ultimately earned his nursing degree in 2012, going to work for Monroe Clinic, before a life altering stroke ended his working career.

Matt was a member of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church and was active in the Boy Scouts, both as a youth member and as a Troop Leader as an adult. He was active in the Mt. Carroll Music Boosters when the kids were in school. He enjoyed rock climbing and rappelling, and loved playing paintball with his kids, while operating a small paintball business on the side. He loved spending an evening playing poker with friends or spending time with his family.

Matt will be dearly missed by his wife, Jane; children, Chris (Alicia) Lundquist, of Nevada, IA, Malissa Lundquist, of Warrenville, IL, and James (Raven) Lundquist, of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Gabriel and Ashara; brothers, Paul (Dotty) Lundquist, of North Carolina, Tom (Leeann) Lundquist, of Texas, and John (Bev) Lundquist, of Mt. Carroll; brothers-in-law, Dave (Jenny) Mueller and Bob (Marilee) Mueller, both of Clinton, IA; and sister-in-law Karen Mueller. Matt is preceded in death by his parents, Derwood and Gunnel and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Vivian Mueller.
