Matthew Raymond Gaffney, age 56, of Hanover, Illinois, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at FHN Hospital in Freeport, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Law – Jones Funeral Home in Hanover prior to the funeral on Friday, June 1.
Matt was born August 14, 1955, in Long Beach, California, the son of Harry R. and Altie (Bowen) Gaffney. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in Long Beach. Matt worked as a truck driver for most of his life. He loved being outdoors and fishing and was an excellent cook.
Matt is survived and lovingly remembered by one son, Andrew Gaffney of Hanover, Illinois; two daughters, Katie (Antonio) Aguilar of Darlington, Wisconsin, and Megan Gaffney of Hanover; two step daughters, Tina (Howard) Rodarte of Maricopa, Arizona, and Sunny (James) Huerta of Riverside, California; his mother, Altie Gaffney of Hanover; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Glendora Gaffney of Texas, Nancy (the Late Patrick Van Natta) Gaffney of Montgomery, Illinois, and Maria (Bob) Kuntz of Galena, Illinois; one brother, Tim (Laura) Gaffney of Hanover; one nephew and many nieces. Matt was preceded in death by his father, Harry Raymond Gaffney.
