Mason was born on March 7, 2001. He spent his childhood in Savanna, where he attended Savanna Schools. From a young age, he was a thrill-seeker, often found practicing parkour and daringly jumping from buildings. As he grew older, Mason's passion for adventure evolved into a love for sport bikes, which he shared with his brother, Zach. Mason's appreciation for all things mechanical extended to his beloved truck, a vehicle he was proud of, especially for its ability to carry all his fishing gear.
Fishing was not just a hobby for Mason but a passion that he pursued at every opportunity. Whether it was early mornings before work or right after clocking out, Mason could be found by the water, fishing rod in hand. His love for the outdoors was deeply rooted in the many camping trips he enjoyed with his family during his youth, with cherished memories made at Lake Ladonna, Lake Le-Aqua-Na, and Rockwood, among other favorite spots.
In 2017, Mason met the love of his life, Maddy Womack. Their bond grew over the years, leading to their engagement. Mason and Maddy shared a love for watching sunrises and sunsets together, moments of peace that perfectly reflected their love. Mason cherished spending time with his loved ones, particularly his brothers, Mason was a true definition of a big brother. He spent countless hours with his brother Zach and when ever he was driving by his parents house he made sure to stop by and see his little brothers just to say hi. He was loved by many and will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, and the joy he brought to those around him.
Mason will be dearly missed by his fiancé, Maddy Womack of Moline; his parents, Christina and Andrew Shaffer of Thomson, IL; five siblings, Zach Coleman of Moline, Brycen Shaffer, Declan Shaffer, Austen Payne, and Averie Payne; his nana, Sherry Hood of Fulton, IL; his best friends, Drew Bausman and Kyle Betts; and many other lifelong friends, to many to list.
