Mary Alice was born April 27, 1944, in Mexico, the daughter of Manuel and Emilea (Nunez) Castro, Sr. At a young age she moved to Savanna where she attended school, graduating from Savanna High School with the class of 1962. She worked for National Lock and tended bar at Canavan’s Pub and the Mt. Carroll Bowling Alley for many years. She also worked for Jumer’s Casino and the Mississippi Belle Casino at different times during her life. When her mom finally retired from Manny’s Pizza, Mary Alice filled her shoes, making their famous tacos for more than 30 years. In 1974, Mary Alice married Charles “Chuck” Stallings.
Mary Alice loved to socialize with friends, especially if a little gambling was built into the plans. She could make friends anywhere she went; frankly, she just flat out loved people, oh and her dogs too! She was a supportive mother, and later grandmother, who would go out of her way to support her family in whatever brought them joy and purpose.
Mary Alice will be dearly missed by her children, Tori, Tom (Cathy), Todd, Tracey (Ray), and Chris (Linda); ten grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Manuel, Jr. (Julia), Gabe (Peg), David (Julie), Sally (Tom), Linda (Glen), and Esther. She is preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; parents, Manuel and Emilea; brothers-in-law, Frank and Lawrence; sister, Mary Ellen (infant); and great granddaughter, Ruth May (infant).
