Mary A. Real, age 74 of Mount Carroll, Illinois, died Monday, February 8, 2010 at FHN Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 at Saints John and Catherine Catholic Church, Mount Carroll. A visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2010, prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Sterling, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established in Mary’s memory.
Mary was born on July 10, 1935, the daughter of Leo and Marion (Allen) Bartel in Sterling, Illinois. She attended Community Catholic High School in Sterling, graduating with the Class of 1953. Mary was married to Albert Joseph Real on October 17, 1953 in San Diego, California. Albert died on January 7, 1989.
Mary was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She was a member of Saints John and Catherine Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed gardening, camping and reading. She was a Chicago Bears Football Fan and enjoyed watching television, especially Jeopardy. Most of all, Mary cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Mary will be dearly missed by her five children, Frances Hunter of Emerson, Illinois, Jean (Tim) Livengood of Milledgeville, Illinois, Mary (Mike) Saathoff of Sterling, Joe (Karen) Real of Rock Falls, Illinois and Kathy Torres of Mount Carroll; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, John Bartel of Arlington Heights, Illinois; and two sisters, Elizabeth (Bob) Moncelle of Bonham, Texas and Joan (Phil) Sandoval of Sterling.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; and one brother, Father Leo Bartel.
