Mary O’Donnell, age 68, of Lanark, Illinois, died April 25, 2008, at home surrounded by her family. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the Lanark United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kathryn Ling officiating. Inurnment will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Freeport, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at the Lanark United Methodist Church.

Mary was born in Freeport, Illinois, on March 28, 1940, the daughter of Alvin and Virginia (Jones) Sauer. She graduated from Freeport High School and Northern Illinois University, where she received a Bachelors Degree in English Education. Mary taught school at Freeport High School, Highland Community College, and in Hawaii. Mary worked as a Director of Marketing for TAP and IBS. Mary married Glenn Copeland in 1963 he passed away in 1985. She later married James O’Donnell in 1999, he passed away in 2007. After retiring she worked for Eastland High School as a substitute teacher. Mary was a member of the Lanark United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener. She loved to travel, but most of all she loved caring for her grandchildren.
Mary will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Sherry Sutphen, of Lanark, Illinois, Elizabeth (Paul) Judd of Lanark, Illinois; three sons, Michael Copeland of Bedford, Texas, Joshua (Tami) Copeland of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Jeff (Mary) Sanders of Euless, Texas; two stepdaughters, Lisa (Ken) O’Donnell-Ferguson of Palmyra, Virginia, Jennifer (Scott) O’Donnell-Taylor of Austin, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Kasey, Meagan, Connor, Zachary, Nathan, Jason, Katheryn, Holli, Emelia, Ethan, Erica; her mother, Virginia Sauer of Freeport; two sisters , Kay Brown of West Dundee, Illinois, Barb Eaton of Freeport; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her father Alvin in 1993, and her husbands Glenn and James.
