Mary Jane “Sodie” Marvin, age 90, of Preston, Iowa passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the Eagle Point Nursing Facility, Clinton, Iowa. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Preston United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston.
Mary Jane was born October 17, 1920 in Preston, the daughter of Herman and Edith (Paup) Sodeman. She is a 1938 graduate of the Preston High School. On February 24, 1941 Mary Jane married Dale S. Marvin in Preston, Iowa. Dale passed away February 8, 1999 in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Mary Jane was a homemaker and farmed with her husband. She also volunteered her time for eighteen years as a “Pink Lady” at Samaritan North Hospital, Clinton. She was a member of the Preston United Methodist Church. Mary Jane loved to cook and bake and play cards. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and traveling, especially making her trip to the Holy Land.
Mary Jane will be dearly missed by her son, Duane (Sally) Marvin of Preston and a daughter in-law, Diane Marvin of Preston; six grandchildren, Brad, Paul, Mike, Nicholas, Nathan and Elizabeth; and ten great grandchildren, Allison, Leslie, Megan, Danielle, Matthew, Nicole, Leah, Jacob, Riley and Casey. Mary Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Dale, and a son, David.
