Mary Elizabeth Lang, age 92, of Savanna, IL, passed away June 4, 2023 at MercyOne Hospital in Clinton, IA. A private committal service will take place at Chadwick Cemetery, in Chadwick, IL. Family and friends are invited to share in Mary’s life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Mary was born November 13, 1930, in Forreston, IL, the daughter of John and Inez (Cheeseman) Hose. She married David Traum, with whom she had four children. She later married Reynold Lang. Mary worked as a deputy supervisor of assessment for the Carroll County Courthouse for 17 years, then as a cook at Sievert’s restaurant in Mt. Carroll for 25 years. In 1985 she earned her CNA certification and worked privately and for Good Samaritan (now Allure) Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll. Throughout her life, Mary was a member of the ELCA Lutheran Church, in Chadwick, IL.
Mary loved spending time on the Mississippi river throughout her life, and was fond of travelling. She’d take bus trips all over the area, and even drove herself to Colorado at age 89! Mary also enjoyed crocheting, visiting the local casinos, and above all else, spending time with her family. Always one with a giving heart, she volunteered her time transporting the elderly for many years.
Mary is survived by her daughters; Melissa (James) Hoffman, of Deer Trail, CO and Vicki (Rodney) Fjelstad, Sterling, IL; grandchildren; Leisa Wyman, Robin Fjelstad, Candy Curran, Scott Sturtz, and Angela Null; fourteen (14) great grandchildren; ten (10) great great grandchildren; niece, Debra Pruis; nephew, Michael Whitmer; and many friends. Mary is predeceased by her parents John and Inez Hose; sister Dorothy Libberton; husbands, David E. Traum and Reynold I. Lang; daughter, Katherine J. Ehnen; son, John D. Traum; stepson, Craig E. Lang; three (3) grandsons, Beau Fjelstad, Joel Henry and Jeremy Sturtz; and a great grandson, Cody Knalsen.
