Mary Adella Kirchner, age 96, of Hanover, Illinois, was called home on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2008 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover. Celebrant will be Father Everett J. Hiller, assisted by Deacon Dave Wilbricht. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover. Memorials may be directed to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or the Hanover VFW Women’s Auxiliary in Della’s memory.
Della was born on September 1, 1911 in Hanover, the daughter of Amos F. and Bridget E. (Whalen) Jackson. Della was raised in Hanover and attended Hanover area schools. Della married Charles “Chuck” S. Kirchner on April 11, 1931 in Galena, Illinois. Chuck passed away on December 17, 1971 in Hanover, Illinois.
Della was a Cook at several local restaurants in the Hanover and Savanna area. Della was a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover and also served as past president for the Hanover VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Della was involved in the Residents Counsel and was active in many community projects that were sponsored through Big Meadows. Della enjoyed embroidery, word books, painting, cats and the Chicago Cubs. Most of all, Della loved spending time with her family and friends.
Della will be dearly missed by one sister, Shirley (Ray) Ferrell of Hanover; three nephews, Gary Nesbitt of Tucson, Arizona, Carl (Vickie) Nesbitt of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Robert “Joe” (Mag) Ferrell of Hanover, Illinois; five nieces, Judy (Gary) Law of Savanna, Marcia (Stan) Holmbo of Sabula, Iowa, Kathy (Tom Rafferty) Teberg of Savanna, Jamie (Scott) Mills of Savanna, and Brenda “Bean” Ferrell of Hanover; numerous great nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews and a very close cousin Vera (Bill) Eadie of Hanover.
Della was preceded in death by her Husband, Chuck; one sister, Thelma Nesbitt; one brother, William Jackson; and one nephew, LeRoy Curley.
