Mary Horst

Mary Horst, age 89, of Miles, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston, Iowa. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Bellevue, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. A memorial fund has been established in Mary's memory.

Mary was born February 23, 1929, in Bellevue, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Irene (Schlecht) Belk. She graduated from Miles High School. On June 25, 1949, Mary married Clarence Horst. They raised six children and celebrated 68 years of marriage until Clarence's passing on July 31, 2017.

Mary was a homemaker and helped her husband on their farm. She cherished the time spent with her family. Mary was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna, Illinois.

Mary will be dearly missed by her five sons, Steven Horst of Rock Island, Illinois, Stanley (Dawn) Horst of Clinton, Stuart (Gretchen) Horst, and Thomas (Kelly) Horst, both of Miles, Iowa, and Sidney (Julie) Horst of Bellevue, Iowa; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a sister, Catherine Dunn of Platteville, Wisconsin. She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Irene; and a son, Kevin Horst.
