Mary Heffelfinger

April 19, 1939 — November 18, 2015

Mary Heffelfinger was a people person and shared her spirit generously. At the age of 76, Mary passed away at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Mt. Carroll, Illinois after a short illness. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, Illinois. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2015 at the funeral home, and also one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Mary was born April 19, 1939, the daughter of George and Vera (Nehrkorn) Handel in Savanna. She attended Savanna High School, graduating with the Class of 1959. She married William Heffelfinger on February 14, 1966. William passed away in September 1999 after 33 years of marriage.
Mary worked at many local factories including the Eaton Corporation, Hanover, Illinois, Alco and Swiss Colony, in Savanna, the Argo Fay Rubber plant, and Structo Toy Company, Freeport, Illinois. What she enjoyed most about work was companionship with her coworkers. She was a member of the United Community Church of Christ, the Women of the Moose, and the Carroll County Women’s Deputies Auxiliary. She enjoyed horseback riding in her younger years, and loved all wildlife.
Mary always looked on the bright side and at all times, throughout the challenges of life, shared her positive attitude.Mary will be dearly missed by her two sons, George and John (Heather) Heffelfinger of Mt. Carroll; two grandchildren, Mark and Carissa McColley; and two sisters, Betty May and Sandy (Lester) Coers of Savanna. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and all of her grandparents.
