Mary Goldhagen, age 95, of Aurora, Illinois, formerly of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, December 27, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Elizabeth. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth.
Mary was born September 3, 1923 in Brownstown, Illinois to Jesse and Pluma Switzer. During World War II, she worked as a welder in the shipyards in Chicago. She later worked at the Savanna Army Depot where she met her husband, Chris Goldhagen. They were married on November 15, 1952 and lived on a farm in rural Elizabeth.
Mary was a member of the Hanover VFW Auxiliary. She loved to travel and was very active, even going parasailing in her seventies. She was a Fighting Illini fan and loved to play bingo and euchre.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Christy Goldhagen of Aurora, Illinois and two sisters, Ramona (Charles) Philpot of Vandalia, Illinois and Barbara (Tom) Mixon of South Houston, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Chris; her son Jon “Mike” Goldhagen; two sisters, Shirley Perkins and Betty Coale, and her parents.
