Mary E. Fahlen

Mary E. Fahlen, age 68 of Savanna, Illinois, died Friday, April 24, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in Mary’s memory.

Mary was born on August 10, 1940, the daughter of Joseph and Juanita (Huling) Sterbenz in Iowa City, Iowa. She attended Savanna area schools. On April 18, 1959 Mary married Conrad D. Fahlen at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna.

Mary was employed by ITW Shakeproof in Elgin, Illinois and Senior Flexonics in Bartlett, Illinois. Mary retired and moved back to Savanna in 2003. She enjoyed spending time with her siblings playing Yahtzee and California Rummy. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and hand held poker games. Most of all, Mary cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

Mary is survived by a son, Conrad D. (Debbie) Fahlen of Villa Rica, Georgia; four daughters, Dena (Dutch) Burton of Hyden, Kentucky, Connie (Kevin) Strebel of Pingree Grove, Illinois, Teresa Kerley of St. Charles, Illinois, and Darcy Crowe of Round Lake Beach, Illinois; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four sisters, Donna Petersen of Sabula, Iowa, Pat (Carl) Anderson of Thomson, Illinois, Barb (Rich) Foster of Rockford, Illinois and Verna Stage of Fulton, Illinois; and her special Yorkie companion, Peaches.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Conrad; a daughter, Laura Marie; a son, Dale Allen; a brother, Donnie Sterbenz; a sister, Nita Jackson; a grandson, Sonny; and three great grandsons, Justin, Justin, and Joseph.
