Mary was born October 30, 1945 in Elgin, Illinois, the daughter of John and Mary (Maher) Darr. She attended West Dundee High School, graduating with the Class of 1964. She attended Eagle Airline School in 1965 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Mary worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for two years. She later worked as a ticket agent for Amtrak in Chicago, Cleveland, Dayton and Cincinnati for 37 years until her retirement in 2005. In her younger years she traveled the U.S. and world with her friends. She visited Spain, Portugal and Morocco. She fondly remembered her time spent in Carousel, Aruba.
Mary was a proud and loving mother and grandmother. She had a lifelong love of reading, and believed that if you learn to read, you could never get bored. She enjoyed coffee, the outdoors, taking rides to look at nature and watching the wildlife outside her window. She loved spending time with her family, being a part of her grandchildren’s daily lives and going on adventures with her niece, Sharon. Mary never met a stranger. She saw the good in the world, and never the bad—and always encouraged her family to treat people the way they would want to be treated. Mary would tell her daughter that she always saw the world with rainbows and unicorns because she lived by the values of love, forgiveness and happiness.
Mary will be dearly missed by one daughter, Christa Darr of Savanna, Illinois; three grandchildren, Trinity, John Anthony, and Mary; one brother Jack (Lorraine) Darr of Elgin, Illinois; two sisters, Delores “Sis” (Jim) Fox of Weeki Wachee, Florida, and June Huffine of Elgin and her canine companion, Chessie. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Eileen Myers and Dorothy Ritchie; one brother, Russell Darr; three brothers-in-law, Gene Myers, Robert Ritchie and Clarence Huffine; five nephews and one niece. The family would like to mention a special thank you to the caring personnel of the Mercy Hospital Renal Dialysis Unit in Clinton.
