Mary Jane Coverdill, age 76 of Savanna, Illinois, died on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at her home. Cremation rites will be accorded and a private family service will be held at a later date.
Mary was born on May 31, 1935, the daughter of Ralph and Mary (Cox) Ragan in Rock Falls, Illinois. After the death of her parents in 1943, Mary was raised by her extended family in Savanna. Mary attended Savanna High School. She married Wesley J. Coverdill, Sr on December 13, 1965 in Albany, Illinois.
Mary was a waitress and bartender in several area restaurants and taverns. She also worked for the Eaton Corporation, National Lock and Swiss Colony in Savanna. Most of all, Mary was a homemaker who's Family meant the most. She enjoyed her Grand kids and was fortunate to enjoy their kids as well. Mary was very big hearted, every furry four legged friend was welcome. Mary enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening and watching her birds. She also enjoyed, sewing, knitting and taking her family on cross country trips every summer.
Mary will be dearly missed by five children, Kathleen (Steven) Hazen of Savanna, Dennis (Carol) Hulseberg of Wellman, Iowa, Amy (Fred Smith) Kosier of Savanna, Wesley (Naomi) Coverdill, Jr of Chadwick, Illinois and Jeffrey Coverdill of Savanna; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; two brothers, Danny “Buddy” Bryant of Mount Carroll and Donny Kemmer of Rock Island, Illinois; and one sister, Betty Heller of Geneseo, Illinois; and three very special friends, Anna Delp, Melissa Schmaling and Brad Kosier.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley; one daughter, Laurie Miller; one granddaughter, Karianne Hazen and one great grandson, Tyler.
