Marvin E. Menzemer, age 88, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, formerly of the Schapville-Elizabeth, Illinois area, passed away October 12, 2006. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth, Illinois. Marvin was born on December 27, 1917, the son of the late Ben and Carrie (Gugler) Menzemer on the “Home Place” near Schapville, Illinois. He attended the Schapville School. On September 8, 1972, Marvin married Dorena (Dee) Simmons at the Elizabeth Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth, Illinois.
During his life, Marvin was a farmer in the Stockton-Elizabeth area. He also played baseball for the Jo Daviess County Farm Bureau baseball team in 1937. Marvin was an avid “Cubs” fan. He enjoyed dancing and loved his favorite cat, “Honey Girl”.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Dorena (Dee) Menzemer; one sister, Beverly Brandt of Galena, Illinois; one brother, Calvin (Marilyn) Menzemer of Elizabeth, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Doris Menzemer and Donna Hints; and his cat, “Honey Girl”.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Velma Downs, Vivian Root, and Deloris Brandt; two brothers, Kermit Menzemer and Blanchard Menzemer; and four brothers-in-law.
