Marvin M. Krug, age 92, of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017, at home. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Derinda, Illinois. Burial will take place in Derinda Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Marvin’s memory.
Marvin was born November 14, 1924, in Derinda Township, the son of Adolph and Lillian (Groezinger) Krug. He attended Elizabeth High School and graduated with the Class of 1942. On February 21, 1958, Marvin married Carol Mueller at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Galena, Illinois. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before Carol’s death in November 2011.
Marvin farmed around the Elizabeth area his whole life. After he sold his last head of cattle in 1988, Marvin rented out the farm. Marvin continued to work at various places including Chestnut Mountain, and Krug Lawn Maintenance. This allowed Marvin and Carol to spend time together and travel across the country. He was a former member of the Elizabeth Fire Department and was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. Marvin enjoyed fishing, antique farm machinery, and listening to Big Band music. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
Marvin will be dearly missed by his three children, Janice (Ronny) Appleby of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, Brian Krug of Freeport, Illinois, and Kevin (Patricia) Krug of Elizabeth; six grandchildren, Timothy, Megan (Fiancé Spencer Schwartz), and Stephanie Appleby; and Adam (Fiancé Bridget Johnson), Jacob, and Jared Krug; two great-grandsons, Parker and Brennan Appleby; two sisters-in-law, Nina Mueller and Glenda Mueller; two nephews; and one niece. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Lillian Krug; his wife, Carol; a granddaughter, Michele Appleby; and two brothers-in-law, Roger Mueller and Donald Mueller.
