Marvin R. Hartwick

Marvin R. Hartwick, age 82, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Sunday, January 8, 2011, at Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2011, at Frank – Law – Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service. Cremation rites will follow the funeral service. A memorial has been established.

Marvin was born October 5, 1929, in Rochester, New York, the son of John L. and Faye B. (Bocker) Hartwick. He attended school in Lanark, Illinois. Marvin married Joyce McDonald in Martinsburg, West Virginia. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2002, in Mt. Carroll.

Marvin proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a skilled carpenter and mechanic, he enjoyed restoring many automobiles. Marvin enjoyed reading and loved animals, especially dogs and pigeons.

Marvin is survived by four sons, Jeff (Dawn) Hartwick, of West Frankfurt, Illinois, Terry (Rosie) Hartwick of McKinney, Texas, Alan (Bea) Hartwick of Carbondale, Illinois, and Ron (Sharman) Hartwick of Charlotte, North Carolina; six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Imogene Hartwick; and two brothers, his twin brother Maynard Hartwick and Donald Hartwick.
