Marty Hill passed away July 23, 2023. A graveside memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Savanna Township Cemetery.
Marty Hill was born on September 24, 1961, in Savanna, Illinois.
Marty was named after his mom’s favorite country singer, Marty Robbins.
Marty was nicknamed “Buck”, shortened from Buccaroo, by his Uncle Clyde Bailey, who gave Marty a cowboy hat and chaps when he was just a young boy. Marty always wore a hat, whether a cowboy hat or a baseball cap.
Marty always dreamed of owning a pickup truck, and in his later years, that dream came true when he became the proud owner of his own truck.
Marty absolutely adored his mother, Ines, who preceded him in death, as well as his father, Charles, and his sister, Rhonda.
Marty is survived by several cousins, two of his favorites being Georgia Mae and Deborah Ann.
Marty’s best friends were his pastor, Bob Bridges, and Paco Eastman from church, and his dog and most loyal companion, Delphi. Marty and Bob used to enjoy playing a good game of golf together, and their many conversations always centered on politics and the Bible. Marty and Paco spent many hours together on their drives to Iowa City for Marty’s doctor appointments, and Paco often helped Marty with his yard work. Marty and Delphi would often be been seen by his neighborhood friends strolling together throughout the neighborhood, or taking walks in the city parks. Never one without the other.
Marty enjoyed:
. Selling treasures on ebay
. Watching a good movie
. Playing video games with his friends
. Collecting vintage board games
. Watching Seattle Seahawks football games
. Nascar racing
Marty was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1980 – 1986. He was an avid believer in the freedom of his country, which he proudly served to protect.

Marty was a believer in Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior. He was a beloved member of Calvary Baptist Church in Savanna, Illinois where he was baptized in 1998. He enjoyed participating in the church fellowships including the dinners, Vacation Bible School where he would dress as a biblical character, and the Christmas programs.
Marty loved the Lord and was ready to make his journey to heaven where he now worships His Lord, and is free of all pain and sorrow.
Marty will be missed by all those who knew and loved him, including his family of both blood relatives and his church family who knew him as their brother through the blood of Christ.
