Martin F. Hansen, Jr.

Martin “Painter” Frederick Hansen, Jr., age 79 of Savanna, Illinois died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at home. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Military Rites will be given by the Savanna VFW after the service. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held at 12:30 p.m.. Martin was born June 3, 1933, the son of Martin and Mildred (Adams) Hansen in Teeds Grove, Iowa. He graduated from Miles High School with the Class of 1952. He served his country in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, as a Sergeant. He married Marie Ann Stuhldryer on July 5, 1958 in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Martin worked as a commercial painter, earning the nickname “Painter”. He also worked as Journeyman for Ironworkers Local in Rock Island, Illinois for 34 years. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, the Savanna and Clinton VFW, the Masonic and Moose lodge, the American Legion, Boys Town, and the Tebala Shrine. He was an avid gun collector and shade tree mechanic. He enjoyed sitting at the river, hunting and fishing, going to tractor shows, metal fabrication and woodworking.
Martin will be dearly missed by his wife, Marie; three daughters, Kristina (Rich) Smith of Clinton, Kimberly Hansen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Kathleen Hansen of Clinton, Iowa; a son Kent (Jody) Hansen of Savanna, Illinois; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Richard Hansen of Clinton, Iowa, Robert Hansen of Tucson, Arizona, Arnold Hansen of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Clarence Hansen of Clinton, Iowa. Martin is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Albert Hansen.
