Martha J. Stretton, age 85, of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, February, 19, 2007 at home. Upon the request of the deceased, no services are planned and her body has been donated to science at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. Martha was born June 18, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Walter R. and Elizabeth H. (Roerig) Janggen. She is a graduate of the Oak Park River Forest High School with the Class of 1939. She then went on to receive her accreditation for Medical Records. Martha married Robert F. Stretton, on January 30, 1942 in Oak Park, Illinois. Martha and Robert moved to rural Savanna in 1953. She worked many years at the Savanna City Hospital in Administration and Medical Records where she was known for knitting "booties" for the newborn babies. She also farmed many years with her husband.
Martha was a member of the Savanna Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Savanna Women of the Moose. Martha loved her family dearly and they will miss her. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, and watching old movies.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Stretton, Jr. of Savanna; a daughter, Kathleen Taylor (fiancé John Eaton) of Savanna; three sons, Robert (Vicki) Stretton III of Savanna, Michael (Tammy) Stretton of Savanna and Jeffrey (Sandy) Stretton of McAlester, Oklahoma; three grandsons, Matthew Taylor, Jesse (Tina) Stretton and Michael Stretton; one great granddaughter, Katlynn Stretton; five step-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; and a sister, Anne (William) Stretton of Savanna. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Janggen.
