Marjorie was born at home May 20, 1920, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Staub) Kleckner, in Pleasant Valley Township south of Stockton, IL. She eloped to marry Russell A. Roberts September 30, 1939 at the The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. He preceded her in death after 68 years of marriage. She and Russell farmed the Roberts family farm in rural Woodbine and raised six children there. Marjorie was an accomplished cook, baker and canner. She also did assembly work for Atwood Corporation (DURA) in Stockton for many years. They were both long time members of the Grace EUB church in Woodbine. Marjorie was a 50 year member and past Worthy Matron and Instructress of the Martha (Elizabeth IL) Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Margie and Russell enjoyed camping all over the US and wintering in the warmth of south Texas. She loved to read, had a special interest in American history, but her favorite pastime was making pancakes in initial shapes with her grandkids. Marjorie was the guiding star for her extended family: Pat Groezinger Schaible of Elizabeth, Fred (Diane) Roberts of Franklin IL, Norman (Doreen) Roberts of Bethelem PA and Nancy Roberts of Lanesville IN; her daughter-in-law Linda Roberts of Marseilles IL; her son-in-law Robert Wetherill of Staten Island, NY and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will also be sorely missed by her sisters Genevieve Russel, Vivian Otte, Jeanette (Allen) Haas and her brothers Donald and Richard (Ruth) Kleckner. In addition to her husband Russell, Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Gladys West; four brothers Allen, Robert, Berl and Owen Kleckner; one daughter Shirley Wetherill; one son Richard Roberts; and one grandchild Annette Groezinger Theyerl.
Memorials in Marjorie's name may be sent to the Roberts Scholarship Fund at the Elizabeth Banking Center, PO Box 500, 151 N. Main St., Elizabeth IL 61028. The fund will be distributed to worthy Jo Daviess County high school students pursuing further education.
