Marjorie Lorraine Mattie, age 88 of LaCrosse, Wisconsin formerly of Savanna, Illinois died, Thursday, December 3, 2009 after a short stay at Bethany Riverside Nursing Home in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2009 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, LaCrosse. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Thomson, Illinois. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mooseheart or Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Marjorie’s memory.

Marjorie was born on March 25, 1921, the daughter of Otto and Helen (Graham) Wolfe in Savanna, Illinois. The eldest of 6 children, she was an important part of each of her siblings life, helping to raise them during the depression. She attended Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1939.

Marjorie worked at the Savanna Army Depot during World War II. After the war she was an operator for the Savanna Telephone Company. Marjorie married George “Sam” Mattie on July 12, 1952 in Savanna. She and her family moved to LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1962 where she and her husband operated Holiday Marina and Bait Shop. She spent many years enjoying life on the Mississippi River. She later worked as a department manager at Osco Drug Store. She was a charter employee and was employed there until her retirement in 1982. Marjorie was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was active in the LaCrosse Moose Lodge. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Penny Poker and always looked forward to her yearly Christmas trips to Branson, Missouri. Most of all, Marjorie loved spending time with her four grandchildren.

Marjorie will be dearly missed by her two daughters: Diann (Sanford) Ilstrup of Trempealeau, Wisconsin and Sharon (Mark) VanLin of Houston, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Shane Ilstrup of LaCrosse, Stephanie (Andrew) Sirek of Rochester, Minnesota, Holland VanLin of Rochester, Minnesota and Ian VanLin of LaCrosse; three sisters, Jeannie Larson of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Rita (Bud) Bull of Thomson, Illinois and Ruth Dahlke of Lafayette, Colorado; and fifteen much loved nieces and nephews.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles Wolfe; a sister, Nina Lindquist and a nephew, Don Bull.

Marge will be remembered for her sassiness and her love for her family.
