Marjorie Hoyer, age 94, of Sabula, Iowa died Friday, September 4, 2015 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Sabula United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in Miles Cemetery, Miles, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Sabula United Methodist Church.
Marjorie was born December 3, 1920 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Lee and Jenny (Laing) Taplin. She was raised, and spent all of her life in the Sabula/Miles area. She attended Sabula High School and graduated with the Class of 1939. Marjorie married LeRoy Hoyer on July 6, 1940 in Clinton. Jerry died September 7, 1984.
Marjorie was a homemaker who cherished taking care of her family. She was a member of the Sabula United Methodist Church. She loved to spend time doing embroidery and quilting and often gave her creations as gifts to her family and friends.
Marjorie will be dearly missed by her daughter, Maxine Schroeder of Bettendorf, Iowa; two grandchildren, Carrie (Randall) Jack and DeAnne (Marty) Wheat; four great-grandchildren, Tess, Taylor, Madison and Claire. She is preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; three brothers, Donald, Thomas and Howard Taplin; two sisters, Dorothy Hitchcock and Genevieve Kuhl; and a son-in-law, James Schroeder.
