Marjorie J. Glacking, of Mt. Carroll, IL, formerly of Libertyville, IL, passed away Friday, December 1, at Allure Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Marge was born September 6, 1936, daughter of Melvin and Dorothy (Ferris) Straub. She grew up in Chadwick, IL, and attended Chadwick Schools. Marge graduated from Chadwick High School with the class of 1954. She continued her education at Northern Illinois University, then Colorado University, Boulder, where she received her Master’s Degree.
Marge would go on to teach, first at Washington School in Sterling, IL, then to Lake Forrest Elementary School, where she taught for 30 years. While teaching in Lake Forrest Marge met the love of her life, James Glacking. Marge and James married on April 23, 1970. Together they celebrated 29 years of marriage, until James’ passing in 1999.
Marge was an active advocate and volunteer for the Lake Forrest symphony, helping with fundraising and other community work, and president of the Libertyville/Mundiline Woman’s Club for many years. Most of all, Marge enjoyed spending time with her family.
Marjorie will be dearly missed by her brother, John Straub of Chadwick, IL; two nephews, Michael (Becky) Straub, of Rock Falls, IL, and Mark (Ann) Straub, of Hayward, WI; and one niece, Christine Anderson, of Winnebago, IL. Margjorie is preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents, Melvin and Dorothy, and her sister-in-law, Arvilla.
