Marion Elizabeth Trenkamp, age 90, of Preston, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015, at the Alverno Health Care Center in Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Sugar Creek Cemetery. A Scripture Wake service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with visitation afterward from 2:30 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston. A memorial fund has been established in Marion’s memory.
Marion was born in the family home near Preston, Iowa, on December 22, 1924, the daughter of Cornelius and Mary (Majerus) Thines. She attended St. Joseph’s Sugar Creek Country School. On January 2, 1946, Marion married Henry Trenkamp, Jr. They farmed together until they moved to town in 1981. Marion and Henry celebrated 62 years of marriage before Henry’s death on May 12, 2008.
Marion was a homemaker, she loved raising her family, taking care of her home, and helping her husband on the farm. Marion enjoyed quilting, canning, baking, gardening, reading, planting flowers, and playing cards, especially Euchre. She also enjoyed listening to polka music and watching “I Love Lucy” and the Chicago Cubs play on TV. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and the Altar and Rosary Societies.
Marion is survived by her seven children, Shirley (James) Pitcher of Coralville, Iowa, Sharon (Dwayne) Driscoll of Preston, Iowa, Sandy (Ralph) Bormann of Clinton, Iowa, Darrell (Lois) Trenkamp of Charlotte, Iowa, Donna Carlyle of Moline, Illinois, Darla Wenzel of Davenport, Iowa, and Deb (Bob) Burken of Preston, Iowa; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Venetta Mootz of Preston, Iowa. Marion is preceded in death by her husband, Henry; two sons, Gerald and William; a grandson, Keith Bormann; two sisters, Catherine Thines and Velma Trenkamp; three brothers, LaVerne, Lawrence, and Cornelius Thines, Jr.; her parents, Cornelius and Mary; and son in-law, Donnie Lubben.
