Marion Oliver "Mike" Strautz, age 87, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 2 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Pastor David Vidler of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Friends may call from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Thursday, one hour prior to the service. A memorial fund has been established in Mike’s name.
Mike was born December 19, 1918 in Mt. Carroll, the son of Frederick and Bertha (Appel) Strautz. He married Arlene Schroth October 13, 1951 in Mt. Carroll. Mike served in the United States Army during World War II.
Mike owned and operated Strautz Plumbing and Heating in Mt. Carroll for many years, retiring in 1985. He served as a past City of Mt. Carroll Ward 2 Alderman. He enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting, and watching PGA golf and Nascar Racing on TV. Mike was a member of the Mt. Carroll American Legion, the Savanna Moose Lodge and the Intellectual Hog Roasting Association, founded in 1968.
Mike will be dearly missed by his wife, Arlene Strautz of Mt. Carroll; his daughter, Jeanne Strautz of Lanark, Illinois; two sons, Michael (Donna) Strautz of Freeport, Illinois and Gary Strautz of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; and three grandchildren, Nicole, Kevin and Katherine.
Mike is preceded in death by both parents and four brothers, Earl, Wilmer, Herbert and Harold.
