Marilyn Kay Giddings

Marilyn Kay Giddings, age 75, of Sabula, Iowa passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023, after an extended illness. She loved being a Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandma and Great-Grandma, spending time and precious moments with family and friends. A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held 10:30am Friday, June 2, 2023 at Sabula United Methodist Church in Sabula, Iowa . A visitation will be held 5-7 pm Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, Illinois. Memorials may be given in Marilyn’s honor for the Sabula Methodist Church and the Sabula Ambulance Association.

Marilyn was born October 6, 1947 in Savanna, the daughter of Ross and Mary Alice (Hoyer) McElroy. She is a 1965 graduate of Sabula High School. On September 12, 1965, Marilyn married the love of her life, Jerry Giddings. They raised three children, Angela, Melissa and Michelle, and celebrated 57 years of marriage.

She was a member of the Sabula United Methodist Church. Marilyn worked thirty years as a Cook for East Central School in Sabula. She loved to bake and cook, especially for others. Her specialty was homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. She and her daughters would deliver all their goodies to friends and family around Christmastime, her favorite holiday. She also enjoyed decorating cakes for special events. Marilyn enjoyed traveling and spending time doing cross-stitch and knitting. Most of all she just loved being with and watching her grandkids and great-grandkids grow up.

Marilyn will be dearly missed by her husband, Jerry of Sabula; her three daughters, Angela Marburger of Sabula, Melissa (Brian) Earles of Sabula and Michelle (Tom) Heister of Pecatonica, IL; five grandchildren, Brandon (Amanda) Marburger, Bradley Marburger, Matthew Earles, Brett Earles and Hailey (Matt) Lannom; five great-grandchildren, Evalynn, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Tyler and Berkley; and a sister, Carolyn Mangler of Sabula. She is preceded in death by both parents and her son-in-law, Scott Marburger.
