Mariette P. Highland, age 90, of Argo Fay, Illinois, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll. Cremation rites will be accorded. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at SS. John & Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll, Illinois with Father Dennis Atto as Celebrant. Inurnment will take place in the National Cemetery at Bushnell, Florida at a later date. Memorials in Mariette’s name may be given for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home and Unity Hospice of Western, Illinois.
Mariette was born January 25, 1922, in St. Ferdinand Quebec, Canada the daughter of Arthur and Noema (Boissonnault) Caron. She graduated from Bishop Muldoon High School, Rockford, Illinois with the Class of 1941. On April 21, 1945, she married Paul Highland in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Rochelle, Illinois. Paul died on February 20, 1995 in Leesburg, Florida.
Mariette worked as an Operator, Supervisor and Associate Analyst for the Continental Telephone Company of Sycamore and GTE for twenty years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of SS. John & Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll. Mariette enjoyed reading, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and golfing. She was lucky in golf, scoring two holes-in-one.
Mariette will be dearly missed by her four children, Michael (Mary) Highland of Thomson, Trish Highland and Diane Davidson of Groveland, Florida, Joseph (Sue) Highland of Shorewood, Illinois and Joanne (Tom) Peters of Rochelle, Illinois; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one brother, Joe (Ann) Caron of Rockford.
Mariette was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; a daughter, Jeanne (Louis) Dipirro and a sister, Theresa Way.
