Marie R. Kruse, age 83, of Goose Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston with Reverend Gregory Geier officiating. Burial will take place in the Center Grove Cemetery, Goose Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marie’s memory.
Marie was born on December 24, 1926, the daughter of William Herman Andrew and Mila (Lash) Ambuehl on the family farm in Fayette County, Farina, Illinois. She attended La Grove Community High School in Farina, Illinois and graduated with the Class of 1944. Marie later attended St. Luke’s Presbyterian Nursing School in Chicago, Illinois. Marie married Raymond L. Kruse on November 25, 2010 in Mokena, Illinois. Raymond died on December 17, 2002.
Marie was a Registered Nurse for forty-two years, which was mostly spent at the Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton, Iowa, before retiring in 1993. She was a member of St. John the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston where she was active until 2005. She played golf and enjoyed bowling even more. She loved going on shopping trips and playing cards with her friends. Marie also spent a lot of time outside working in her garden, cooking and canning a variety of vegetables. Marie was an excellent knitter and would create afghans, sweaters, foot warmers and doilies. She even created stained glass lamps and decorative hangings. Most of all, Marie cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Marie will be dearly missed by her two sons, Paul and John Kruse, both of Charlotte, Iowa; and one brother, Herschel (Barb) Ambuehl of Farina, Illinois.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; two brothers, Merle and Donald Ambuehl and one sister, Floye Johnson.
