Marie Deutscher, age 80, of Savanna, died Thursday, February 19, 2015, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Round Grove Cemetery in Dwight, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established in Dorothy’s memory.
Marie was born June 20, 1934, in Reddick, Illinois, the daughter of Isaac and Dorothy (Johnson) McCarter. She attended Reddick High School and graduated with the class of 1952. She married Herman L. Deutscher on April 25, 1953, in Campus, Illinois.
Marie spent her life as a homemaker and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. Together, they all enjoyed boating, camping, and vacationing to state parks. Marie had many talents and could play the piano, organ, accordion and clarinet. She also enjoyed many crafts such as oil painting, crocheting, sewing, and making ceramics and porcelain dolls.
Marie will be dearly missed by her husband of 61 years, Herman; her children, Alice (Rick) O’Neill of Aurora, IL, Tony (Tammy) Deutscher of Thomson, IL, Vickie (David) Costello of Camanche, IA, and Jody (Kelly) Deutscher of Eagle River, WI; one brother, Dick (Ginger) McCarter of Calumet City, IL; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.Marie is preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, and three sisters.
