Marianne King, 74, of Savanna, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at St. Francis (OSF) Hospital of Peoria, following complications from a brief illness. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30am Friday, July 10, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna. Visitation will be held 4-8pm Thursday, July 9, 2026, and one hour prior to the Mass at Law Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Marianne’s family remembers her as a deeply compassionate nurse, a devoted mother and grandmother, a lifelong music lover and proud Chicago White Sox fan.
Born August 20, 1951, in Chicago, Marianne was raised in Oak Park and Elmhurst. She graduated from York High School in 1969 and went on to become an LPN, attending Triton College. Nursing became her life’s work: for more than four decades she cared for patients across many specialties — from cardiology and pediatrics to surgical and long‑term care. Locally she worked with Dr. Mulay, Big Meadows and Harborcrest. Marianne retired in 2016 after a distinguished 41‑year career during which family and co-workers often remarked on her kindness and genuine concern she showed her patients.
Music and singing were at the center of Marianne’s life. She loved classical pieces and crooners alike, and she frequently lent her voice at weddings, funerals and community events. She treasured family traditions, crossword puzzles, and lively phone conversations with friends far and near. An enthusiastic White Sox fan, she never missed keeping track of the season and delighted in sharing games and memories with loved ones.
On September 27, 1975, Marianne married Edward King III in Elmhurst. Even though they later divorced, she cherished the life and family they built together. Marianne’s greatest joy came from her family.
Marianne is survived by her children Christopher (Laura) King, Peter (Susan) King, Tina (Jesse) Stretton, all of Savanna; a son-in-law, Zach Dickau; ten grandchildren — Edward, Zach, Megan, Corie, Rowan, Caleb, Noah, McKenna, Katlynn and Hailey — and six great‑grandchildren, with another great‑grandchild expected. She is also survived by siblings Susie (Dan) Wallace of Bandera, Texas, and Tom(Nancy) Campeggio of Sugar Grove, IL; and two nephews.
Marianne was preceded in death by her daughter Annie Dickau and both parents.
