Maria Torres

Maria Torres, age 83, of Thomson, Illinois, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, Illinois. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 30, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Savanna.
Maria was born October 13, 1928, in Silao, GTO, Mexico, the daughter of Jose and Cristina (Arriaga) Cuellar. She attended grade school in Mexico and the University of Guanajuato. Maria married Elpidio “Pete” Torres on February 22, 1955, in Mexico.
Maria was a homemaker, who loved to flower garden, drawing, baking and cooking Mexican food, especially enchiladas and hot tomales. She was a member of NARFE and the Over 50 Club at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Maria is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband Pete Torres of Thomson, Illinois; one sister, Lupe Alaman of Silao, Mexico; and one niece, Eugenia Alaman of Silao, Mexico.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents.
