Margie V. Mummert

April 17, 1926 — July 6, 2023

Margie V. Mummert, age 97, of Mt. Carroll, IL, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Allure Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 14, 2023 at the Church of God in Mt. Carroll, at 11 a.m. Vistation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Lanark Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to share in Margie’s life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com. Memorial may be made to the Church of God, in Mt. Carroll.

Margie was born April 17, 1926 in Woodland Township, IL, the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Adams) Guenzler. She graduated from Woodland School with the class of 1944. On September 1, 1946, Margie married Lawrence Mummert at the Mt. Carroll Church of God. They would go on to have a son and celebrate 59 years of marriage, before Lawrence’s passing in 2005.

Believe it or not, Margie got her driver’s license for the first time at age 80, after Lawrence passed. It was a big adjustment for her, but she made it work…barely!

Margie was a devoted farm wife and mother and was a proud member of the Church of God in Mt. Carroll. “Daisy” as her friends fondly referred to her, was the type of woman who always had a cheerful smile on her face. She enjoyed time spent outdoors, whether on her farm or hunting or fishing with friends. Her life was centered around her family, friends, and life on the farm, and she wouldn’t have had it any other way.

She was also an extremely patriotic Gold Star Mother. She was immensely proud of her son, Allen, who was killed in action in 1968, serving in the United States Army. Allen was the first Carroll County military casualty of the Vietnam War, and for his actions that day, he was awarded the Bronze Star. For the many decades after his death, Margie would carry Allen's Purple Heart and place red, white and blue flowers at his grave. She never went a day without feeling pride and love for her nation and those who sacrificed for it.

Margie will be dearly missed by many, and is survived by a niece, Jane Law; nieces and nephews on her husband’s side; dear friends, Larry and Mardeena Browning, Ted, Kerry, Jenna, and Megan James; and her church family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ethel; husband, Lawrence; son, Allen Mummert; brother, Charles (Betty) Guenzler; and sister, Martha Law.
