Margery L. Wernick, age 67 of Savanna, Illinois died on Monday, May 31, 2010 in Lanark, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial fund has been established in Marge’s memory.
Marge was born on July 6, 1942, the daughter of Robert and Ethel (Nave) Peters in Clinton, Iowa. She attended Elvira High School, graduating with the Class of 1960. Marge married Robert Kohl in 1961 and later married Norman Wernick in 1963. Norman passed away in 1971.
Marge was dedicated and worked hard all of her life. She worked for Jim Walters Window Components, Camanche, and Products Unlimited in Sabula, Iowa. She also worked for Rolling Hills Progress Center in Lanark and for various local restaurants. Marge taught Sunday school at the Riverside Church in Clinton, Iowa. She was also proud of being an Alcoholics Anonymous member since 1981. Marge enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Marge devoted her life to her children and family.
Marge will be dearly missed by two sons, William Wernick of Pearson, Georgia and Norman (Amanda Gossmann) Wernick of Lanark; one daughter, Ethel (David) Sturtz of Mount Carroll; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren; eleven step-great grandchildren; one step-great-great, grandson; her mother, Ethel Nave of Camanche; a brother, Robert C. (Kathy) Peters of Redland, California; a sister, Margaret (Jesse) Foley of Savanna; a step-sister, Marion Shippee of Clinton, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her father, Robert; her stepfather, Max Nave; a brother; a sister; one niece; and one step-great grandson.
