Margery A. Furgason, of Rockford, IL, formerly of Chadwick, IL, passed away Thursday, November 30th, at Wesley Willows in Rockford. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 12th, at the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church in Chadwick.
Margery was born May 12, 1927, on the family farm outside of Chadwick, daughter of Harve and Elsie (Schuchardt) Queckboerner. She attended Chadwick Schools, and graduated from Chadwick High School with the class of 1945. Margery then enrolled at Rockford Business College, where she met the love of her life, Robert Furgason. Margery and Bob married on May 20, 1950. Together they raised two children, and celebrated 38 years of marriage.
Early on in their marriage, the Furgasons moved to Kansas City, before moving back to Chadwick to take over the family farm. Around this time, Margery began working in the office at GE in Morrison, IL, where she would work for 25 years. She was a great cook and baker. Her family always looked forward to her biscuits and gravy. Even into her later years Margery was an early riser. She would use these mornings to exercise, or get work and chores finished.
Margery’s faith was central to her life. She was a life long member of the First Lutheran Church in Chadwick. Margery was an active member of her church community, and a part of the Church Circle for many years. She had also been a member of the Chadwick American Legion Auxiliary since 1954. In her spare time Margery made “scrubbies” for family and friends. She had a good head on her shoulders, and a quick mind into her last days.
Margery will be dearly missed by her brother, Evan (Sharon) Queckboerner of Lanark, IL; many nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Janice Queckboerner of Chadwick; and her good friends, Beverly Joyce of Rockford, IL, and Barbara Schlegel of Janesville, WI. Margery is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her son, Lane, her daughter, Christine, her parents, Harve and Elsie; and her brother, John.
