Margaret Ann Schaible Wurster, age 91, of Elizabeth, IL, passed away at Swedish American Hospital, in Rockford, IL, on June 1, 2025. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Derinda, on Saturday, July 12, at 10:30 a.m with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the service. A celebration of life luncheon will follow in the church basement.
Margaret was born July 18, 1933, in Derinda Township, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Thain) Schaible. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran, becoming a lifelong member. She taught Sunday School, helped prepare food and serve in Trinity’s kitchen for many, many functions and was currently active with the Trinity Women’s Group that made 40-50 quilts per year to donate for various charitable needs.
On February 14, 1952, Margaret married Donald Wurster. They lived on the Wurster farm near Derinda until 1982 when they moved to Elizabeth. During those years they enjoyed travel to California, Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, the state of Washington and Washington DC. For their 50th Wedding Anniversary, they traveled to Ottawa, Canada to celebrate with family. They celebrated 61 years of marriage, before Donald’s passing in 2013.
Margaret spent 50 years as a tax preparer for H&R Block and was still assisting clients during her final week on this earth. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, and maintaining her many flower beds. She baked the most delicious pies earning the title of “Pie Lady.” Just a few months ago she baked 5 pies to donate to a local charity auction. By the way, she also baked delicious cinnamon rolls and cookies, and for many years (until the pandemic) she and faithful members and friends from Trinity maintained a booth at The Elizabeth Farmer’s Friday Market where they sold the wonderful baked items that they had made along with their garden produce.
But Margaret’s most meaningful role in life was that of devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She was always ready to help others, her parents, her siblings, her neighbors and friends. Margaret was a great example for us; she made the most of life and always saw the good in others.
Margaret is survived by her son, Bradley Wurster (Sally) of Elizabeth; daughter, Brenda (Bruce) Trost of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; grandchildren, Jeff Trost (Julia) of Mill Valley, California, Scott (Julie) Trost of Charleston, South Carolina, Adam Wurster (Amanda) of Elizabeth; great grandchildren, Makenna Wurster, Leighton Wurster, Jake Trost, Maggie Trost, Walker Trost, Grey Trost. She is also survived by her sister, Janice (Jim) Tippett, Redmond, Washington, nephews, Alan Tippett (Mary Ann), Ottawa, Canada and John (Teresa)Tippett, Seattle Washington and her sister-in-law, Karen Schaible, Freeport, Illinois.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Donald and her parents, Charles, Mary and her brother Richard Schaible.
